The Fair Housing Act prohibits discrimination in the sale, rental, and financing of housing and in other housing related activities due to a person’s race, color, national origin, religion, sex, familial status, or disability/handicap. This law ensures that citizens may compete for housing on a fair and equitable basis.
If you feel you have been a victim of housing discrimination, the Fair Housing Act allows you to file a complaint free of charge. Locally, you may file a complaint with JC Vision and Associates by calling (912) 877-4243 or toll free (866) 396-4243. You may also file a complaint online with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) or by phone (800) 440-8091. Complaints MUST be filed within one year of the alleged violation.
How We Help
The City of Hinesville periodically analyzes impediments to fair housing choice and develops a plan of action to address areas of concern. We also observe Fair Housing Month each April and educate the public of rights through a variety of activities. Information is available in our lobby and will be gladly mailed upon request by contacting Ms. MaryBeth Deiters at (912) 876-3564.
