South Main Street - Streetscape Project
The ultimate goal in the City’s South Main Street Streetscape and traffic improvement project is the installation of traffic improvements with an environmentally friendly streetscape to help make Hinesville more appealing to the citizens of Hinesville and visitors to the City.
The rendering below shows the scope of all future improvements and also indicates (in the red rectangular) where the sewer main is being replaced.
In order to achieve the ultimate plan, we have a few more tasks to complete.
The next step in the project is to replace the aging infrastructure under the roadway, then create a traffic route to allow the future improvements (two traffic circles) to be constructed with as little inconvenience, to the traveling public, as possible.
The first task will include replacing the sanitary sewer in South Main Street; between Hendry Street and Ryon Ave. To avoid total road closure of South Main Street during the construction process, the project will be installed in three phases. Each phase has a traffic control plan to keep the workers safe and reduce delays to traffic during the construction process. The traveling public should expect delays or detours in the area, as a result of the sanitary sewer replacement, between Monday, February 19, 2024, to Friday, February 23, 2024.
This task of sanitary sewer replacement is expected to begin on February 19th and be complete on February 23rd. Once all sewer installation is complete, we will begin paving South Main Street; between Central Ave and Screven Way.
The new pavement will provide a smooth surface along the entire route and will eliminate the bumps associated with the recent storm sewer replacement. Shortly after the new asphalt overlay, new stamped and colored concrete crosswalks will replace the old brick crosswalks along the route. It is necessary to pave the road first, then cut the crosswalks, to make the crosswalks look new and smooth.
The City of Hinesville is working hard to create a better and safer driving environment for the citizens. Once complete, this section of South Mian Street will have a similar look to Memorial Drive.
Thank you for your patience as we complete the improvements.
